BC coaching search derby update

Here’s the latest news in the ongoing Boston College search for a new basketball coach.
After talking to St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt, presumably on Thursday, BC officials talked to another candidate on Friday-best guess is that it was Celtic assistant coach Walter McCarty.
On Saturday, the Eagles focused on Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins, who was on campus during the day.
It could stop with Hopkins, which would make him the favorite. Or it could include Quinnipiac coach Tom Moore, although, as of Saturday morning, BC officials had not gone beyond Hopkins.
Towson coach Pat Skerry, who was originally on the list of candidates, apparently was scratched.
The status of Harvard’s Tommy Amaker also remains unclear. It could be as simple as Amaker showing up at a press briefing about the Crimson season on Monday, stating that he is the coach at Harvard and all the talk about BC was media speculation (which it was to some extent).
Or Harvard could cancel that briefing and Amaker could be announced as the next BC coach.
Nothing is done–yet. But BC seems to be getting closer, with a Monday or Tuesday announcement date still looking logical.

    Here’s the solution:

If Steve Masiello turns out to have lied, he’s the guy for BC.

Because his action is pure simpatico with the way BC has been run since 1996.

Mark, you were euphemistic in saying in your other column that it is hard to get a “straight” answer from that place.
