Is Amaker really out at BC?

It was a simple release. Harvard will be conducting a media opportunity to discuss the 2013-2014 season with Coach Tommy Amaker on Monday afternoon.

Not a big deal if there was no question of where Amaker would be working next season. But it may have also been Harvard’s way of saying that the Tommy Amaker will be the Coach of Harvard in 2014-2015–not the coach somewhere else–such as Boston College.

All of which could mean–and probably does mean–that Boston College is now focusing on it’s B list of candidates.

Of that group, the only candidate who would move the needle of expectation significantly higher is former UCLA and Pittsburgh Coach Ben Howland.

Howland is looking to get back into coaching and has reportedly expressed an interest in the opening at Marquette.

But the BC way is to deal with coaching searches in secrecy, so maybe the Eagles are ready to pop Howland from behind Door No. 3.

If it is not Howland, then a long list of candiates, eager to move up to the ACC level are waiting for consideration and a call.

Stay tuned.

Amaker does not fit the mold that BC is looking for. O’Shea, Skerry,Coen Schmidt,Lonegan,Hopkins,Howland, etc. The alumni and students did not feel comfortable with Skinner, and they do not want Amaker.
