Hitting the world wide web in college football and other areas of interest to see what jumped out and took a nip at a Jerseyguy’s nose.

Let’s start with, what we hope is the last bit of business regarding the Jerry Sandusky mess at Penn State.

EVERYONE SHUT UP AND MOVE ON.

Please. No more press conferences, no more law suits. No more charges unless something new and really damaging is turned up.

Joe Paterno, RIP, is dead. Jerry Sandusky will spend the rest of his life in jail. New Penn State coach Bill O’Brien has to clean up a toxic waste dump that has turned Happy Valley into something this short of Three Mile Island.

The school has been punished, publicly humiliated and fined. It could be a decade before “WE ARE Penn State” is heard in the Rose Bowl.

But enough already. Let’s move on. Let’s deal with other issues–hello North Carolina and academic fraud and fake courses and fake grades. There will be other crisis to monitor.

Penn State, your 15 minutes of fame are over.

Let it be.

Please.

Idaho wants to leave the WAC and play as an independent in football. Are you kidding me? Idaho is not Notre Dame, it’s not BYU. Its not even New Mexico State in football. Do you think there is going to be a great call for the Vandals on the schedule? Wait a minute, we just changed our mind. It’s brilliant. Every big time FBS school will want the Vandals (who were 2-10 last year) on their schedule as filler. Pay them big bucks to fill in the non-conference “scrimmage” portion of their schedule. The losses and the travel budget will be tough, but the bottom line will be lots of cash. Brilliant.

The FCS playoffs will expand by 4 teams in 2013.  Can’t wait for this one as the FCS field increases to 24 teams as the non-scholarship Pioneer League joins 10 other FCS conference champions in the field.

The interest level in seeing Morehead State play Delaware in an FCS playoff game might be minimal, of course, but the concept of letting everyone have a chance to create a Cinderella possibility is not really that bad. For purists, who are sickened by the malfeasance among the big boys, it might even be refreshing.

USC coach Lane Kiffin took himself off the USA Today Coaches poll after publicly saying that he would not vote his team No. 1 in the pre-season poll when he actually did.

What a shock. Having coaches vote on anything other than how good they are has always been a questionable practice. Almost every coach knows what his team is doing during the regular season and what his opponent for the next game is doing–and that’s it.

They all have agendas. And they shouldn’t be voting on deciding Who’s No. 1 or Who’s No 25 and certainly on who is going to be playing in the BCS title game.

Former Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino made a public apology for his misdeeds to ESPN. Great. Needed to be done.

Let’s see the survey of people who have watched Petrino operate for the past decade who think the apology was sincere?

We’ll wait.

Urban Meyer did sort of the same thing–again with ESPN–which is turning into the sports version of Oprah.  Good stuff. But let’s see how Coach Meyer is during Michigan week and when things heat up again for the Buckeyes

But then again that might just be the Jerseyguy in us kicking up.
