Big East Comish pick could be “outside the box”

The search for a commissioner for the new Big East is apparently focusing outside of the traditional box of college administrators and focusing on someone with more marketing and business experience, perhaps connected to the NBA or Major League Baseball.

According to sources familiar with the search which could come to a conclusion in the next few days, the Big East Presidents have ruled out both former Big East associate commissioner and NCAA vice president Danny Gavitt and West Coast  Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich and are focusing on the NBA or Major League Baseball as the primary talent pool.

BC hoops may have crossed the threshold

It is still February and the madness of March and post season basketball is still 3 weeks away from beginning, but if you are a team in the Atlantic Coast Conference and need a boost in the ACC tournament to elevate your post season status, the one team you don’t want to see as an opening round opponent is…Boston  College.

Big East closing in on new deals

FORT LAUDERDALE–Things ajerseyguy took note of this week: While the rest of the college football world focuses on Monday night’s BCS title game between No. 1 Notre Dame and No.2 Alabama, Big East commissioner Mike Aresco is working the back corridors of the BCS world to keep San Diego State as a firm member of the Big East football conference, starting next July.

The Big East is also closing in on a television deal for both football and basketball that  will be fair and representative of what Aresco feels will be, at the very least, the 6th best major college football conference next season.
